Corona Worldwide DIAMOND ANNIVERSARY 2010
DIAMOND ANNIVERSARY LUNCH 29th JULY
ADVANCE NOTICE
As Corona will be 60 years old in 2010, the Executive Committee is organising a special summer lunch on 29th July by way of celebration. They hope that as many of you as possible will be able to attend, especially members from overseas. As it is such a special occasion, and it would be lovely to see as many members as possible, the venue chosen is Royal Holloway College near Egham in Surrey. Linked by direct rail connections to London Waterloo, Clapham Junction and Reading, it is also close to the M25 (Jct 13), and is on the A30. Given its extensive landscaped grounds, the College has plenty of free parking, including some disabled spaces. The lunch will consist of a welcome drink and canapés, two courses, including a vegetarian option, and tea or coffee with petits fours. The cost will be no more than £35.00. Friends and husbands will, as usual, be welcome. So too will branches coming as a group, who may like to car share or hire a coach. The booking form and further information will be sent out with the Spring mailing. In order to assist with the planning of this event, it would be helpful if you would complete the Anniversary Lunch section of the booking form. At this stage no money is required, nor will this be considered a firm commitment. {booking forms below}
What's New
LONDON EVENTS 2010.
August 18th :- CHISWICK HOUSE; Burlington Lane W4. @ 11am. Chiswick House is the first, and one of the finest, examples of neo-Palladian design in England. Inspired by the architecture of ancient Rome and sixteen century Italy, it was built by the third Earl of Burlington. Never intended as a private residence the house, or it was preferred to be known as a villa, was more of a showcase for the arts rather than a home, and a wonderful venue for entertaining. The website has a fascinating description of parties through the ages held there. The villa has been cared for by English Heritage since 1984 and the gardens have recently undergone major restoration. They are a site of international importance both as the birthplace of the English Landscape Movement as well as the setting for one of the most beautiful houses in London. The newly opened café designed by award winning architects, Caruso St John, looks worth a visit too. Our guided tour will last about an hour and we are then free to walk around the gardens. You can even bring your own picnic and eat it in the gardens. Turnham Green Tube and Chiswick Overground station are the nearest stations and there are buses from there. We have been sent a comprehensive map which will be sent out with the acceptance letter.
